The 4th annual Patriotic Pie War stirred up a lot of interest! As always, we couldn’t have done it without our 13 volunteer bakers! One special note – after 4 years, with such a small community, we have not had the same baker more than once. That means Marceline has had 52 pie bakers who have donated their time and efforts towards the Downtown Marceline Foundation’s mission to revitalize Main Street USA. That commitment to our community has raised more than $4,000 over the past 4 years for the Patriotic Pie War online auctions.
This year, we think we had the longest pie name (try saying this 3 times fast): Snickerdoodle Cream Cheese Apple Pie. Be sure to ask Mary Chrisman if it tasted as good as it sounds! This year, we also had some of the highest bids for pies that we’ve ever had. The good natured fun was recapped at the close of bidding by Rita Terrell’s comment “It was a good fight ladies! Congrats” when she was outbid for Betty Tarpening’s Apple Pie.
As we’ve said, we couldn’t do this FUNdraiser without the pie bakers, but one of the main ingredients are the people who are donating their dollars to the auction – the bidders. So, we thank everyone who took the time to add their comments (in the form of $$) and bid on their favorite pies during this two day online auction.
We’re happy to announce that the 2024 Patriotic Pie War online auction brought in $1,310 from committed Marceline supporters.
So, until next year, start baking some pies and be ready when you get the call to be one of the 13 original bakers for 2025 (OR, start keeping a list of people who bake pies in and near Marceline so you can highly recommend them.) We look forward to dishing up another fun and tasty event!
