Running for the Candy

Another great Trick or Trot Dash and Splash 5k Fun Run has crossed the finish line! We’re so thankful for all who participated, and for the wonderful work of the volunteers, including Kirsten Ewigman for bringing so many of her students to the event, as well as Mary Beth Switzer and the Organization/Promotion Committee for organizing the run, Marceline Masonic Temple, Lodge #481 for letting us use their space for registration, the City of Marceline for preparing the roadways to make the course safer, and to all of the volunteers who served as route-watchers – and again, to all of the runners! We’d like to especially thank the sponsors for their generous donations and support of the Downtown Marceline Foundation’s efforts to help revitalize the community.

It was a warm and windy day on the streets of Marceline that Saturday, as we had 78 runners, walkers, and strollers along the route. The starting line began in front of the Magnolia Building, and headed north to Santa Fe Avenue, where they turned left and headed to the Mt. Olivet Cemetery. After a short run through the cemetery to say hello, and to add to the Halloween theme, the runners retraced their steps back to Main Street USA, where they ran all the way to the Santa Fe Country Club entrance, then around the Country Club Lake, where they finished at the Marceline Municipal Pool. After the finish line, there were no tricks, just treats and a pool party!

The two fastest girls were Gabi Finch and Raegan Duey, and the three fastest boys were Warner Wright, Weston Molloy, and Gaven Schreiner. Congrats to them for keeping up the pace and showing everyone how to finish strong!

Start training today for next year’s 5k fun run, and tell all your friends in Marceline and anyone you know who’s not in Marceline. We’re looking forward to making next year’s event even better.
